PASTOR OF CARE
TO THE BODY OF CHRIST AND TO THE COMMUNITY
At Cheers we recognize that Christians are not meant to run the race on their own. Healthy relationships with other believers provide fellowship, support, growth and accountability. By connecting with each other we can learn our gifts and understand the place that God has called us to in the Body of Christ. We are all members of one Body and each of us has a valuable contribution to make. (1 Cor 12:12-31) We believe that as a person develops healthy, Christ centered relationships and becomes confident in their calling within the Body of Christ, they are then able to positively extend their gifting into their community.
HERE AND EVERYWHERE
At Cheers we value the presence of God in our services and in our decision making. We are led by the Holy Spirit and we recognize that a true encounter with Him is life changing. We are committed to providing opportunities for every person to have a personal encounter with Jesus Christ and to learn how to hear His voice of love, guidance and comfort in their lives. We are all meant to be God’s hands and feet on this Earth and by encountering God and learning to hear His voice, we are then able to spread the gospel to others who desperately need an encounter as well. (Matt 28:16-20)
CHAMPIONING GOD'S PLAN FOR EVERY PERSON
At Cheers we believe that God has a plan, a purpose, a hope and a future for everyone’s life. (Jer 29:11) No matter a person’s background, God is the god of restoration and redemption. We believe that as a church, it’s our mandate to champion the destiny that God created for each of his children and to edify and encourage the calling on every person’s life. We believe that as a person begins to understand their value and their purpose in the eyes of God, that they will in turn, be equipped to declare God’s destiny in the lives of those around them as well.
While working with a youth ministry in Hamilton, Ontario, Joey and his brother Dennis felt God's prompting to start a church plant in Penticton, BC. In June of 2006, Dennis and Joey packed up their families and made the move across Canada.
From there, a small group of people started meeting together for worship and fellowship. This led to some key supporters moving into the Penticton area to help out with the church. The first official service of Cheers the Church took place on January 6th, 2008. The church grew quickly and within 2 years was looking for a larger meeting space.
God directed Joey and Dennis to 639 Main Street, Cheers' current home. Since then, the people of Cheers have continued to seek God's presence and serve the community of Penticton.
